Rideshare and delivery income: records for Australia

If you drive or deliver through a platform such as Uber, DiDi, Uber Eats or DoorDash, keep the platform's earnings statement, the fee breakdown and the payment evidence together. Each explains part of the transaction: what you earned, what the platform charged and what reached your account.
Read the statement before the bank deposit
A useful monthly check starts with three labels: earnings, fees and payout. A statement may also show tips, adjustments, taxes or amounts collected on your behalf. Follow its labels rather than assuming every number is additional income.
For example, imagine earnings of 1,000 currency units, a fee of 200 and a payout of 800, with no other adjustments. The 800 is the payment after the fee; keeping all three figures makes the relationship clear. This is an illustration of a statement, not a tax calculation.
The ATO point to check
Passenger ride-sourcing requires GST registration regardless of turnover. Food delivery follows the standard GST registration rules, because the ride-sourcing rule applies specifically to transporting passengers. Keep the customer fare and the platform charge distinguishable when checking your income and GST; see ATO — Registering for GST.
Keep the supporting evidence
Save the full statement with its dates and platform name. When checking overlapping weekly, monthly and annual statements, mark which period each covers so the same earnings can be recognised across the documents.
Keep expense receipts alongside the statements. If a distance appears, preserve its exact label and unit: “online distance” and “trip distance” can describe different measures. Bring those figures together with your own journey records when checking business travel. See the vehicle records guide.
Read payout statements with Bilbx
Add the photo or PDF to Money in, or forward it to your Bilbx email address. Bilbx reads earnings and payment details, keeps platform fees as an expense, and retains distance explicitly printed on the statement. Money in is free; Tax Lab brings income and claimed expenses together.
Drivers are one of the small businesses Bilbx helps, alongside contractors, freelancers and hosts. See Bilbx for Australia, self-employed income records and the country's tax rules.

Common questions
Is my bank payout the same as my gross earnings?
No. Your bank payout is the amount paid after any fees and adjustments shown on the statement. Keep the earnings, fee breakdown and payout together so you can explain the difference.
Can Bilbx read my Uber or other platform statements?
Yes. Forward the statement to your account’s Bilbx email address, or add it as a photo or PDF. Bilbx reads the earnings and platform fees and keeps the document with your income record.
Every figure on this page is checked against the ATO's own guidance and linked in the sources above. Last checked . Thresholds change each tax year, so if you are reading this well after that date, confirm the current figures before you rely on them. Terms.
